2019 Tariffs
As you know, on Friday, May 10, 2019 the United States Government implemented a 25% tariff on $200 billion worth of Chinese imported goods. Several of our suppliers have reached out to us over the last few weeks letting us know they will be increasing prices due to this third wave of tariffs.
For an updated listing of those suppliers who have notified us along with their imposed effective date, our approved effective date if applicable and the details of the price increase (increase percentage along with product(s) affected), please see below. As of last week, two additional suppliers have sent us tariff related price increase letters. We now have a total of 19 suppliers being affected by the tariff.
In addition to this latest tariff, the United States Trade Representative (USTR) has announced plans for another round of tariffs on an additional $300B worth of Chinese goods coming into the United States. The USTR committee will be holding a public hearing on June 17, 2019 followed by a week for comments. The earliest the new tariff could be set in place would be June 24, 2019. The new list of products proposed will exclude pharmaceuticals, certain medical goods, rare earth materials and critical minerals. Currently only ACCO Brands has reached out to us for an intent to increase pricing if this next wave of tariffs goes into effect.
As of last night, President Trump announced the United States will impose a 5% tariff on all goods coming in from Mexico effective June 10, 2019. The White House noted that the tariff would increase by 5% each month until it reaches 25% in October. We are unaware at this time how many of our suppliers will be affected. We will continue to update this post so that we can all prepare for what is to come.
